Italian Open Tennis 2023 – International Tennis BNL in Rome from 8 to 21 May 2023
Big news this year for the Italian Open Tennis 2023, from 56 to 96 players with 12 full days of play rather than 7 (plus another two days of qualifying rounds)!
It being understood that the ATP and WTA points remain the same (1000 for the winner/winner, 600 for the finalist, 360 for the semi-finalists and so on) everything else changes and becomes much bigger, more important, more spectacular as the tournament draws pass from 56 to 96 participants and the competition days from 7 pass to 12 (plus two qualifying days). The women’s tournament will begin on Tuesday 9 May (qualifications from Monday 8) and will end on Saturday 20 May. The men’s will instead start on Wednesday 10 (qualifying from Monday 8) and has the finals scheduled for Sunday 21 May.
The central days, those with the maximum number of stars on the field, will no longer be the Wednesday and Thursday of the final week, but the weekend in between (Saturday 13 and Sunday 14, which include daytime and evening sessions) or better still the long week, 4 days, from Friday 11 May to Monday 15).
The central weekend of the tournament, that of Saturday 13 and Sunday 14, becomes a sort of great tennis festival, with daytime and evening sessions, to fill both the Central Court and the Grand Stand Arena program with highly technical and spectacular matches. that of the Pietrangeli field which can be accessed with the Ground ticket.
International Tennis BNL in Rome from 8 to 21 May 2023
The novelty of Super-Saturday (May 20) with men’s semifinals and women’s finals: what catches the eye most is the anticipation of the women’s final on Saturday evening (the evening program includes the awarding of the singles and doubles WTA titles) which goes to create a real Super Saturday at the Foro Italico: in the afternoon the men’s semi-finals (daytime session), in the evening the women’s highlight. The final day, Sunday 21st, will be entirely dedicated to the ATP finals, singles and doubles.
With 2023, the Internazionali BNL d’Italia are among the Masters 1000 tournaments for which the ATP has provided for a further leap in quality (Upgrade), equalizing them to the two American Masters 1000 which traditionally take place in March between California and Florida, Indian Wells and Miami tournaments.
Work is underway on an expansion of the Foro Italico site, to be submitted to ATP and WTA.
In general, it is a historic edition, in which the IBI become a small slam for the first time.
Finally, the relationship between BNL (official sponsor) has been improved and renewed until 2028.
